A police officer reported to have defiled a 15-year-old girl for eight months has been arrested in Homa Bay County.
The police constable based in Ndhiwa is said to have started defiling the girl last January, when she went to seek protection at the station following a domestic dispute with her family.
Locked in cell
In a strange turn of events, the officer allegedly seized the opportunity, locked the girl in a cell, from where he would sneak her into his house every night and return her in the morning.
The girl's widowed mother reported the matter to senior officers when she learnt her daughter was being defiled.
All along, the relatives of the Form One student at a local secondary school assumed she was under police protection.
Officer busted
It was not until September when the officer was busted, prompting investigations into the incident.
Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Commander Daniel Wachira yesterday confirmed the police constable had been arrested and that he would be charged with defilement. “The girl was held at the police station temporarily as one in need of protection while arrangements were being made on where she would be taken,” Wachira said.
