Two lovers have been admitted at the Kitui County Referral Hospital with severe burns after one of them reportedly set their house ablaze in what is suspected to be a case of love gone sour.

The two were rescued by neighbours from their rental house at Slaughter Estate within Kitui Township on Tuesday morning after fire engulfed their house.

According to Julius Mutinda, a neighbour, a ball of fire burst out from the victim’s house and took them hours to put it out.

“We were startled by a huge fire coming from their house. We immediately raised alarm and called for help from Red Cross who responded swiftly. However by the time they arrived, the two had been burnt severely,” Mutinda said.

He added that the rescue operation was hampered by poor road network within the estate and called on the county government to make the area easily accessible to both pedestrians and motorists.

Kitui Central OCPD Musa Abduba said that the two were lovers but had parted ways only for the man to resurface on Tuesday when he visited the woman. He said preliminary investigations had established that there was a disagreement between the two before the mysterious fire consumed them.
