Five held over exam cheating at Kapterema Primary School

Five examination officials at Kapterema Primary School in West Pokot County have been arrested for allegedly engaging in exam malpractice.

The five include a teacher who was caught taking pictures of a science examination paper using his mobile phone at the school.

West Pokot County Commissioner Apollo Okello said the teacher, identified as Vincent Lorma, was not allowed to be in the examination room and they had commenced investigations into the incident.

Vincent Lorma is a PTA-hired teacher at the school.  

"All teachers are not allowed to be in their schools during the exam period. Centre managers are the ones in charge.  We are investigating why she was taking photos," he said.

Apollo added that the centre manager Flora Soprin, supervisor John Limangura, invigilator Godfrey Ochieng and a national police reservist Longolekau Lonyangiro were arrested.

They are being held at Kacheliba Police Station and will be arraigned at Kapenguria Law Courts today.

Apollo told Standard Digital they had deployed new examination officials to man the last day of the examinations.

"Those colluding to steal exams won't be spared.  Will still be tough even in the KCSE coming exams," he said.
