A female police officer and her fiance are among four suspects who were arrested on Saturday with heroin in Mombasa and Kwale counties.
Officers from the Anti-Narcotics unit, the Transnational Organised Crime Unit and the National Intelligence Service arrested the suspects after a two-hour operation.
The four are detained at Port Police Station in Mombasa.
The 30-year-old policewoman, Hamdi Yussuf Maalim Ibrahim, is attached to Likoni Police Station. Police said it was only recently that she was transferred to Likoni from Timbwani in Kwale.
Ms Yusuf (pictured), who is originally from Garissa County, is said to have taken leave to wed her boyfriend. Both were arrested in a Diani guest house.
Police said they found them with 200 grammes of heroin in 21 sachets valued at Sh400,000.
The other suspects are Sarah Zainab Abdi, 47, who was arrested in Bamburi with 600 grammes of heroin valued at Sh1.02 million and Rosemary Kavinya, 41, who was nabbed at a Bungalow in Nyali with a kilogramme of heroin valued at Sh1.8 million.
Mombasa County Police Deputy Commander Joseph Chebii said the arrest was made by a multi-agency team and his office was not briefed on it.
"I am not aware of the arrests. Officers from anti-narcotics headquarters made the arrests and I don't know who was arrested," Mr Chebii said.
Yesterday, Port Police Station OCPD Patrick Lobolia said the suspects were being held at the police station and would be arraigned soon.
