A Nigerian national who police say is s drug and human trafficker in the region was at the weekend arrested in Nairobi and deported.
Mr Dibia Obinna alias Agumuo Nnamdi was arrested from Kayole after being on the run for a month when immigration and police announced they wanted him for questioning in connection with an incident in which 27 Nigerians were seized from an apartment in Kilimani area last month. Obinna was deported Sunday after interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiangi signed the deportation order.
The 27 Nigerians were too deported last month. They had come as businessmen when officials were alerted.
Officials said Obinna is linked to cases of drug trafficking and human trafficking in the region. He has been posing as a consultant to Nigerian high commissioner and chairman of Ibo community in Kenya. He was initially linked to another Nigerian national Anthony Chinedu who was deported in 2013 over drug trafficking claims. It is not clear how he has managed to evade police operations for the last years when a campaign was mounted to remove suspected illegal immigrants engaged in criminal activities.
Police say they are looking for his accomplices in the city.
This is the latest foreigner to be deported in a campaign that is aimed at ridding suspected criminals. More than 1,000 foreigners have been deported from the country in the past two years in a campaign that officials say is aimed at sanitizing Kenya. Most of them were in the country illegally and were engaged in illegal activities including drug trafficking and gambling.
