An officer is fighting for his life at a private hospital after he was shot and injured by armed criminals while on official duty at Kisulisuli estate, Nakuru town.
Nakuru East Police Commander Elena Kabukuru said the officer (name withheld), is admitted at Mediheal hospital.
“One of the officers is nursing gunshot wounds at a private hospital after he was attacked by a group of armed criminals while on duty,” said Kabukuru.
Ms Kabukuru said the officer was conducting regular patrols together with other two officers at Kisulisulu and Bondeni area, when they received a tip-off from members of the public that there was a suspicious vehicle within the area.
Upon searching for the owner of the vehicle unsuccessfully, the officers decided to tow it to the station.
But while in the process of calling for a crackdown, they were confronted by three people who claimed its ownership.
The suspects immediately got into the vehicle and removed pistols and begun firing at the officers.
One of the officers sustained gunshot wounds on both legs.
The suspects tried to drive away but the tyres were deflated by police officers. They later escaped abandoning the vehicle at Bondeni area, where it was recovered by police.
The injured officer was rushed to Mediheal hospital in a critical condition, while the vehicle was towed to Bondeni Police Station.
“Our officer is in stable condition after examination. We have launched investigations to arrest the criminals involved,” said Kabukuru.
