A man went berserk and hacked his 81-year-old mother to death in Naivasha.
The 48-year-old man later handed himself to police. He committed the crime in Gatamaiyu village, 20km from Naivasha town.
The suspect, who has been in and out of mental institutions, used an axe to kill his mother. Some neighbours tried to rescue the woman but failed.
Geoffrey Waithaka said the suspect had in the last couple of days been hostile to his mother.
“The woman was in the kitchen when the son, who was wielding an axe, attacked her. The screams attracted members of the public, but there was little they could do,” Mr Waithaka said.
Dumping of bodies
Elsewhere in Mai Mahiu, a man’s body was found on the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road.
Last week a similar incident occurred on the same road.
Just like in the first case, there were signs of strangulation. The body also lacked identification documents.
Jackson Koigo, a resident, said a suspicious car was spotted dropping something off on Saturday night. Naivasha OCPD Samuel Waweru said some suspects had been held.
“We are worried by the cases of dumping of bodies in this area, as we are recording at least two cases every month,” said Mr Koigo.
