Cancelling your SGR ticket will now attract a heavier penalty

Kenya Railways (KR) on Thursday announced a slight adjustment in the cost of cancelling an SGR ticket.

Through a statement seen by Ureport, KR stated that refunds will now attract a fee of 30% of the ticket price up from the initial 20%.

Those who wish to reschedule will be charged 10% of the ticket price.

“Both these transactions are done over the counter and require the customer to have the original ID or passport,” read the statement.

Economy class tickets usually go for Sh1000 while first class tickets go for Sh3000.

This means penalties will for those requesting refunds will be between Sh300 and Sh900 while rescheduling will cost between Sh100 and Sh300.

Ever since it was launched, the Madaraka Express has attracted numerous clients and makes two trips per day.

In May, Kenya Railways doubled fares for children as part of a plan to raise more revenue to repay the debt incurred in building the railway.

Minors above three years are now paying full fares.
