A suspected member of the Wakalikwanza gang has been killed in Likoni.

Two of his accomplices escaped.

Two pangas were recovered at the scene where residents backed by boda boda riders cornered the three.

The criminals allegedly earlier slashed and robbed a woman at Mwananzia in Likoni during the 6am incident.

Witnesses said the suspected gang members escaped into a quarry said to be their hideout.

But boda boda riders mobilised their colleaques who armed themselves with crude weapons and stones.

They were flushed out of the quarry but came out wielding pangas.

A boda boda rider identified only as Hassan said the suspect became wild while his accomplices escaped, promptng the mob to stone him.

"He had a sharp panga and he thought the mob would fear. He was stoned to death," he said.

Village elder Fatuma Nuru said the deceased identified only as Biko was part of the criminal gang.

She said the gang members attacked a boda boda rider on Thursday afternoon and left him with panga cuts in the head.

"He is known in the area. He is a young boy who is supposed to be in school."

Police came several hours after the incident and took the body to Manyatta Hospital. It was later transfferred to the Coast General Hospital morque.

Likoni deputy police boss Elina Wanjala said the suspect was part of a gang.
