A teenage girl appeared in court charged with killing a 14-year-old girl in a suspected love triangle.
The 19-year-old girl, a KCSE candidate, did not, however, plead after the investigating officer sought more time to conclude the probe.
Police Constable Athman Ali told court the suspect, Alexia Oketch, stabbed Angela Siteti, a Class Eight, on allegations that the latter had snatched a boyfriend from her.
Mr Ali said Siteti was stabbed once on the upper side of the neck on Saturday, June 22 at Khayega estate, Shinyalu sub-county. She then sought refuge at a relative’s house in Ikolomani, where police arrested her.
Siteti is said to have been on her way to a posho mill when she met the suspect who confronted her for snatching the man said to be a boda boda rider locally. The man has not been arrested.
A confrontation is said to have ensued before the suspect produced a kitchen knife and stabbed the younger girl once then fleeing the scene. Members of the public raised the alarm, but did not arrest her. An angry mob set her father’s house on fire on allegations of cleansing.
Police from the nearby Shinyalu station went to the scene only to find Sitati’s body lying in a pool of blood with a deep cut on the neck. The body was taken to Kakamega County General Hospital mortuary.
“Investigations are yet to be completed. We are yet to record witness statements as well as subject the suspect to age assessment tests and mental examination,” said Ali.
Kakamega magistrate Dolphina Alego granted police 10 days. The matter will be mentioned on July 5.
