A policeman attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Murang’a, on Wednesday lost his pistol within the police lines under unclear circumstances.

The detective is reported to have lost his loaded Ceska pistol when he went to the bathroom just next to his room.

The policeman reported the loss of the firearm at Murang’a Police Station.

The gun had reportedly been left under the pillow for safety and it is still unclear if the officer had locked his room at the time of the incident.

Search

Investigators assigned to the case divulged that a search was mounted for the missing firearm within the police quarters with no recovery made.

They added it had been extended to other places with details of the visitors who could have visited police quarters being analysed.

“When he came from the bathroom, he could not trace the gun and moved around to checking who could have sneaked in his house in his absence,” one source said.

Senior security officers met on Thursday over the issue.

Murang’a East DCIO Juliana Muthini said investigations had been concluded and they were waiting for direction from their bosses.

“The file will be submitted to higher offices including director of public prosecution for advice as protocol demands,” said the DCIO.
