Two people have been injured in an explosion at Nairobi's Latema Road-Tom Mboya Street junction.

Reports say a man hired a trolley pusher to carry a box. It is suspected the box contained an Improvised Explosive Device which exploded.

According to Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo, the man who hired the trolley pusher ran away immediately after the explosion. Ndolo has asked the public to be on high alert and report any suspected terror activities.

One of the City explosion victims, a porter, told KTN News that the luggage was handed to him by a man.

The suspect wanted the luggage ferried from the Baba Dogo stage to Kenya Cinema.

The porter, Jones Okinyi, says he waited eight minutes before the luggage exploded.

He adds that he got suspicious when the man was too willing to go back for his ID, in a city where customers are anxious about having their luggage misplaced.

“The man said he had forgotten his ID at an M-Pesa outlet and went back,”Okinyi said.

Police say the people who were injured, a vendor and a pusher were rushed to the Kenyatta National Hospital.

Bomb experts currently combing the area and the public has been urged to stay away from the scene.

Traffic is building up along Moi Avenue around Khoja Mosque as police stop motorists from accessing the Tom Mboya Street.
