Uasin Gishu County Assembly were on Saturday declared the overall winners of the week-long inaugural County Assemblies Sports Association (CASA) games festival held in Nairobi.
Uasin Gichu emerged winners after lifting the Football and Volleyball titles as well as posting best performance in Athletics.
Kilifi County Assembly Member (MCA) Hon. Hadad Feisal Ahmet and Kiambu’s Hon. Njeri Bakari were crowned Mr. and Miss CASA 2018 respectively.
The CASA games themed "Enhance Legislative Agenda through Sports and Culture"brought together about 43 County Assemblies participating in 22 disciplines.
Uasin Gichu overcame Migori 3-0 to claim the football title as their volleyball side defeated Migori to retain the trophy they won at last year's KICOSCA/CASA games.
The two crucial losses in football and volleyball saw Migori finish second in the overall rankings.
Speaking during the closing ceremony at Kasarani Stadium, CASA Chairman Hon. Peter Imwatok hailed all teams for exhibiting high level of discipline during the competition staged across Nairobi County.
“This was our 1st edition after separating from KICOSCA, therefor, there may be challenges but given the short time for preparation that we had, we pulled it through,” said Imwatok.
He added, “The teams comprising of both Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) and the staff have been disciplined and exhibited the highest degree of respect. These games are taking as long way of socialised benchmarking opportunity for all of us."
Winners in different disciplines will represent the country in the East Africa Local Authorities Sports and Cultural Association (EALASCA) games Festival slated for November in Kigali, Rwanda
Preparation for next year's event to be held either in Kisumu or Mombasa county, will kick off mid-January 2019.
