Counterfeit goods worth Sh7.5 billion have been seized in the last two months, the Government has revealed in an update of ongoing crackdown.
The goods impounded include sugar, cigarettes and alcoholic beverages.
Deputy Head of Public Service Wanyama Musiambo (above), said 75 suspects had been arrested and charged in court over the illicit trade.
Among the suspects are 10 public officials, who have been charged for abetting entry and distribution of the fake products to the country.
“Beyond the interception and destruction of the counterfeits, the campaign, which is set to be intensified in coming days, aims at curtailing the proliferation of illegal trade in the country by disrupting the supply and distribution,” said Musiambo.
Other goods impounded in crackdown on fakes include agricultural products, household electrical products, motor vehicle spare parts, textiles and cosmetics. Some of the products have already been destroyed.
