Twelve suspects arrested over the killing a pastor will face murder charges before the High Court in Kisii.
The suspects had appeared before Kisii Senior Resident Magistrate Ezekiel Obina for mention of the case in which they are accused of abducting Pastor Esther Bochaberi Oyugi in her Bokeire Village home in Kisii County on March 11.
Prosecutor James Gachoka asked the court to change their charges from abduction to murder, following the discovery of Oyugi’s body in a sugar plantation in Awendo, Migori County last week.
“Due to the new developments in this case, this court has granted the wish of the prosecution to have the 12 suspects face fresh charges of murder instead of the initial abduction charges,” said Obina in his ruling.
The accused are Fredrick Nyambati, Benson Machuka, Joseph Onduko, Reuben Onduso, Christopher Omwega, James Mogita, Edwin Nyabaro, Robert Orwaru, Edward Onyango,Peter Nyamarere, Vincent Maobe and Jared Makori.
