Taita-Taveta Governor Granton Samboja has awarded full scholarships to 250 poor students.
Speaking during the commissioning of the programme at his Wundanyi office yesterday, Mr Samboja said the initiative aimed to ensure increased transition rate from primary to secondary school.
Under the Samboja Foundation Imarisha Elimu initiative, the governor yesterday disbursed more than Sh3.7 million to beneficiaries.
According to the governor, the full scholarship programme he initiated with his wife Stella would also cater for pocket money for those in boarding school.
Those in day schools, he said, would be provided with food on a monthly basis for their entire education period. Samboja said his administration was also working closely with education stakeholders to help improve poor standards of education in the county.
