Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is set to release the 2017 Kenya Certificate Secondary Education results on Wednesday at noon at Nairobi School.

The 615,773 candidates who sat for their KCSE,which ended on November 29, will know their results three weeks after they finished the exams.

Anxiety has gripped parents and students ahead of  Matiang’i announcement that comes early compared to other years.

Parents' and candidates’ fears could hold some weight going by an analysis of KCSE examination results for the last three years.

The results released in 2016 shocked many Kenyans as only 141 candidates scored the coveted grade ‘A’ compared to 2,685 who attained the grade in 2015.

Only 4,645 candidates scored grade A–, 10,975 attained B+ while 17,216 scored B plain. A total of 55,952 candidates scored B– and C+ in last year’s results.

Overall, only 88,929 candidates attained the university entry grade of C+ and above compared to 169,492 the previous year.

A Ministry of Education report on KCSE examination performance between 2014 and 2016 reveals that the number of candidates who score grade A has continues to drop, with the lowest score recorded last year. The report is dated July 18, 2017.
