Local political leaders have alleged a plot by Jubilee to arrest them for advocating secession of the Coast and for rallying area residents against tomorrow's presidential elections.
Governor Amason Kingi, together with seven Opposition MPs, said on Tuesday that their stand against election on Thursday is firm.
Speaking during a rally at Adu and Kaembeni in Magarini, the governor told security chiefs to respect elected leaders who have a duty to give residents the right direction.
They were reacting to County Administration Police Commandant Elisha Ngetich and Coast police boss Larry Kieng, who last weekend warned against secession talk being propagated by politicians.
Kingi said their call for secession, which would enable the Coast region to choose its own path of self-governance, is protected by international law.
Present during the rally were Senator Stewart Madzayo, MPs Paul Katana (Kaloleni), Owen Baya (Kilifi North), Aisha Jumwa (Malindi), William Kamoti (Rabai), Michael Kingi (Magarini), Teddy Mwambire (Ganze), and Kilifi Woman Representative Gertrude Mwanyanje.
