Police officers have raided the home of high-flying businessman Jimmy Wanjigi in Muthaiga, Nairobi, hours after recovering guns and bullets at his Malindi house on Monday.

The officers from the Prevention Crimes Unit had arrest and search warrants.

Wanjigi's father and brother joined him at his Muthaiga home.

National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders were present. They included Siaya Senator James Orengo, Suna East MP Junet Mohammed among other leaders.

Police had earlier on Monday claimed that they had recovered five AK 47 rifles, 93 rounds of ammunition at Wanjigi’s Malindi home. They displayed the weapons to journalists.

According to Malindi OCPD Matawa Muchangi, they were tipped by the public and rushed to the scene. “We got a tipoff from the public and we carried out the dawn raid from 12 am to 11 am. Investigations are ongoing,” said the officer. Muchangi added that they also found used cartridges in Wanjigi's house.

“We also found three used cartridges and we want to find out where it was used and for what purpose,” said Muchangi.

In 2013 Jimmy was one of the sponsors of William Ruto’s United Republican Party (URP) and Uhuru Kenyatta’s The National Alliance (TNA) ahead of that year’s general elections. URP and would morph into Jubilee Party months before the August 8, 2017 polls with Jimmy now on the NASA side.

A reclusive character, many Kenyans got to see him in public during the burial of businessman Jacob Juma who was gunned down in 2016. No arrests have been made.

In 2017, Wanjigi became a common sight during NASA political rallies prompting Deputy President William Ruto to say NASA is benefitting from “tenderpreneurs”

After the 2013 elections Wanjigi fell out with the high and the mighty in the government, some say over unfulfilled pre-election deals.

In August 2017, a son of Moi-era Cabinet Minister Maina Wanjigi, c plained of being trailed by strange people.

In Kalonzo Musyoka’s memoirs, Against All Odds, he tells of how he was pushed out of the Uhuru-Ruto alliance during a meeting his Karen home ahead of the 2013 polls. The meeting featured him, Uhuru, Ruto and Jimmy.
