Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama and Gatundu South Member of Parliament (MP) Moses Kuria were on Tuesday charged with incitement to violence at the Milimani Law Courts in Nairobi.
The two controversial politicians pleaded not guilty to the charges and were released on cash bails of Sh300,000 or bonds of Sh500,000 each.
They were further ordered to pay Sh1 million as surety that they will register good conduct pending the trial.
Muthama was said to have made inciteful remarks on Sunday in Kitengela during a rally held by the National Super Alliance (NASA).
The speech that put Muthama in trouble circulated widely on social media where it sparked sharp and mixed reactions from Kenyans.
He was then arrested on Monday afternoon at his Tala home and taken to CID headquarters in Nairobi for questioning.
