National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders are planning to hold prayers for the presidential petition on Sunday outside the Supreme Court in Nairobi.

The Opposition leaders will also meet early next week to deliberate on whether or not the NASA Members of Parliament-elect should attend the first session of the 12th Parliament as summoned by President Uhuru Kenyatta.

NASA Co-Principal Moses Wetang’ula says the decision by the President to summon Parliament, although constitutional is in bad faith since his election is being contested in the Supreme Court.

“It is in the constitution that the President or the caretaker President (as Uhuru is today) has powers to summon Parliament for purposes of swearing in of Members and election of the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, but we find his (President Uhuru’s) decision premature since there is a case in Court challenging his re-election” said Wetang’ula on Friday after a meeting with Members of Parliament elected on NASA affiliate parties at Okoa Kenya offices in Nairobi.

Wetang’ula further said the coalition will beginning this Sunday hold peaceful vigil outside the Supreme Court to pray for the matter that is before the Supreme Court. “We agreed that all Members present here and those who could not make to the meeting will join us for the prayers”.

In a meeting attended by Co-Principals Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi, the leaders agreed that a retreat be held in two weeks’ time to allow members familiarize with each other and propose names of representatives to various committees of both Houses including the powerful watchdog committees.
