Sh143 million Naivasha water project launched

The national government has launched a Sh143 million water project for four informal settlements in Naivasha.

The project, which is being implemented through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, has already begun and is set to address the water shortages in Kasarani, Kihoto, Kamere and Karagita estates.

 This comes barely a fortnight after the Government launched an upgrading programme for the four estates that house hundreds of flower farm workers. Housing Secretary Patrick Bucha said the project would be ready in the next 12 months.

"For years, residents have had to rely on water supplied by vendors. This will soon be a thing of the past with this project," said Mr Bucha yesterday.

He said this was part of the ongoing Kenya Informal Settlement Improvement Programme (KISIP) that seeks to improve, among others, water supply, lighting, drainage and roads.

"Already, the four informal settlements have benefited from street lighting while the rehabilitation of roads is going on," he said. Area MCA Simon Wanyoike termed the project timely.
