It has been a great year for Nigerian singer Yemi Alade who won the honour for the Best Female at the 2016 MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMA). She has also become a household name in Kenya, thanks to her collabo with Sauti Sol and effort to sing in Swahili.
This however did not come easy as she has faced sexual harassment on her way up.
“Record label owners and show promoters are all guilty of this. Sexual harassment comes in different levels; some are intense, some are subtle and some even come through third parties. Once I see the signs, I run and the person would not even have the opportunity to go through with his evil plans. There are some people whom I looked up to in the industry but surprisingly, they also wanted sex,” Yemi said in an interview.
Yemi hit the limelight with her song Johny. She has featured in Coke Studio thrice.
