A photo showing Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho cooking has elicited excitement online with many fans, most of them women from across the country gushing at the idea of the powerful County CEO employing his culinary skills to host his guests.
Questions over the nature of the rare event were palpable and the Nairobian conducted an investigation to demystify the occasion.
It turned out that the governor was yielding his greasy spoon at his younger brother's residence in the city of London. Among his guests were family members and friends.
On the particular day, Monday last week to be exact, Joho was preparing Biryani, sweet plantains, chapatti and mutton curry.
It turns out that Governor Joho enjoys cooking for his family whenever he gets some time off from his busy schedule. "Cooking for him is a hobby which he pursues whenever he gets the time," confirmed an aide.
"I think it is a great idea for a man to help out in the kitchen and relieve his wife once in a while," the governor said.
The politician also confirmed that, not only does he revel in the joys of preparing dishes but also takes time to shop for groceries for his family. This he strives to do with as little fanfare as possible because of his position as the governor of Mombasa.
Although years of practice have ensured his dexterity in making a variety of dishes, governor Joho says that his favorite meal will remain Biryani, Pilau and Chicken.
On a political note, Governor Joho says he tries not to get derailed by political pressures so much such that he cannot enjoy family moments that people of his household cherish.
"Even as I ensure the Right Honorable Raila is elected president in 2017 and I get reelected as governor of Mombasa to complete my term, making delicious dishes for my people will always remain a hobby.
