Kidero picks businessman Peter Kimori to replace Ondieki as Environment Minister

Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero has picked Sudan based businessman Peter Kimori Maranga to replace Evans Ondiek who he fired a fortnight ago.

Dr Kidero forwarded the name to the County assembly. Monday, clerk Jacob Ngwele asked members of the public to provide any information about the nominee.

Eng Kimori has been doing construction business in Juba, South Sudan for the last decade after he resigned as Rift Valley Provincial Roads Engineer and after 23 years in public service having risen from District Works engineer.

Kimori holds a BcS in Engineering  (1986) and masters in Highways and Transport (1989) from University of Nairobi.

He moved to Juba as a consultant where he established an engineering firm Sudken limited. Among the major projects he undertook was the construction of Juba bridge, the fourth longest in Africa.

In the last election, Eng Kimori contested the Bomachoge Borabu constituency election on an ODM ticket and lost to Joel Onyancha of Ford People.

He successfully logged a petition which resulted to a by election. Onyancha retained the seat.

Ondiek wished him well in his new duties saying he would support him where needed.

Ondiek has sued Kidero and Nairobi County saying his dismissal from the Environment Minister post was arbitrary and contrary to the law.

In his application, filed as urged at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi, Ondiek further said his sacking was instigated by malice and political whims.

He said he was fired for supporting former Devolution Cabinet Secretary Anne Waiguru and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru.

He wants the court to quash his sacking, order the county to rehire him and stop his replacement pending the hearing and determination of his case.

Kidero did not give a reason for sacking Ondiek on January 26 days after reshuffling his government. He appointed Urban Renewals and Housing CEC Tom Odongo to replace him in acting capacity.

Kidero reshuffled his team in what he said would "ensure efficient service delivery to Nairobi residents".
