Embattled Speaker Gordon Ogolla who has been on a three-month suspension following allegations of graft has been impeached.
Mr Ogolla was voted out by 56 MCAs, a number that even surpassed the 75 per cent threshold required by law.
There was tight security outside the precincts of the House as a contingent of both GSU and Regular Police officers cordoned the compound to avert any confrontation like it happened last month when the MCAs were debating his suspension, that of the Leader of Majority Richard Solio and Minority Leader Charles Nyangi.
The three, together with the Assembly Clerk Patrick Wakine and other two officers from the Finance department were accused of embezzling more than Sh12 million.
All the MCAs supported the motion to impeach Ogolla that was moved by Macalder-Kanyarwanda MCA Eric Gogo, and was seconded by Kanyasa Ward Representative Tom Mboya.
Contacted, Ogolla said he was not served in time to defend himself and insisted that he was contacted on Tuesday evening to appear before the Committee the following day (yesterday). He never made it to the committee due to travel constraints.
