Nominated Senator Agnes Zani's bodyguard shoots and injures suspected thug in Nairobi

Nairobi, Kenya: A bodyguard attached to nominated Senator Agnes Zani fought off a gang that wanted to rob him of his gun in Ngei estate, Nairobi, before shooting one of them.

The bodyguard shot and seriously wounded one of the attackers, dispersing the other gang members in the attack that happened as he walked to his residence on Wednesday night. The senator was not at the scene when the incident occured.

The suspect is hospitalised with a bullet wound in the neck, police said.

Starehe OCPD Bernard Nyakwaka said the gang wanted to rob the police officer of his gun and other valuables.

The officer and witnesses said the gang had pinned down the victim and wanted to grab his gun and valuables when he surprised them by shooting at one of them. It later emerged the gang was armed with a toy pistol.

A hunt on the other men is ongoing.

 

 

Elsewhere in the area, a man was stabbed to death in a robbery in Huruma estate, Nairobi.

The victim had alighted from a matatu and was walking to his house when he was confronted by three men who tried to rob him of his valuables and cash.

Police say he resisted prompting one of the attackers to stab him in the stomach and chest. He died instantly. The gang grabbed his mobile phone and other valuables before escaping on foot.

This is the second such incident to happen in the area. Another man was on Tuesday night stabbed to death in an attack in Kariobangi area as he tried to save his girlfriend from a gang that was robbing her. No arrest has been made so far in both incidents but police say they are looking for the gangs.
