It is only fair to let Baba and Wiper use pension to fulfil heart desires

NAIROBI: That little matter about Opposition kingpins Baba and Wiperman Kalonzo’s pension is back in the news. Apparently, their pay was on the cards last week but Prezzo UK did not append his signature to approve the release of the funds until they retire from politics.

I don’t think that’s fair at all; the other retired Presidents, Mzee Emilio of Mweiga (but officially remains in Muthaiga) and the Man from Sacho, occasionally comment on national issues without losing any of their perks.

Baba and Wiper do the same, and their declaration that they will run for elections in 2017 shouldn’t be used against them. One’s pension, after all, should be used to fulfil the desires of their heart.

I think a majority of the men use their pensions to take a second wife, buoyed by the windfall that they mistake for wealth, hardly realising that the regular pay check is gone. So the loot quickly disappears, and the new wife follows the way of the loot.

Yet others start building houses, as they have always dreamt of doing, but never got round to doing, usually white elephants that never get completed, and the money is sunk. So the onus of choosing how to spend their pension should be Baba’s and Wiper’s own business, and if we so care for their welfare that we are worried about them sliding into destitution, after squandering their money on politics, then we should think of a fund that could subsidise their future life should they ever suffer pecuniary embarrassment.

That’s not too much to give two great men who have dedicated their lives to the service of this nation. Jubilee must rise above the fray and pay them haki yao. If ever there was a cause that merits mass action, and which I promise to join, then this is it.
