The Department of Public Health has raised the red flag over sale of uninspected meat in Naivasha.
It stated that they have also recorded the emergence of sale of game meat.
This came as two suspects were arrested in Kayole estate, along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway selling over 100 kilogramme of uninspected meat.
Issuing the alert yesterday, Naivasha sub-county Public Health officer Caroline Vata, said the vice was common in Kayole, Kihoto, Karagita and KCC estates, which incidentally are home to flower farm workers.
She said they had intensified inspection of food places and that they are investigating the source of the meat. “We have arrested two suspects in connection with the sale of uninspected meat and they shall be arraigned in court,” she said.
Vata said the ban on hawking was still in force, and anyone found flouting the law risks arrest.
“We have come to learn that some people are selling game meat. We want to tell them that their days are numbered,” she said.
Meanwhile, two Nakuru County government employees are fighting for their life after they were involved in a grisly road accident.
Seriously injured
The two officers who are attached to the enforcement unit in Naivasha were rushed to ICU unit after the Friday night accident.
A car the duo was traveling in was hit by a bus along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway seriously injuring them while no one from the bus was injured.
A witness, Abraham Kimani, said the two were joining the highway from Naivasha town when their car was hit and dragged for over 50m by a bus.
“The two were rushed to hospital where they were admitted in the ICU with,” he said. A senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed the accident, saying the mangled wrecks had been towed to Naivasha Police Station.
