28-year-old man kills grandmother because she had not prepared supper

Kisumu, Kenya: A man has been arrested at Ruke Village in Muhoroni, Kisumu County after killing his 77 year old grandmother over food.

Wyckliffe Omondi, 28, allegedly attacked his grandmother by kicking her on the back of the head, killing her instantly.

According to witness statements recorded at Muhoroni Police Station, Omondi came home on Tuesday evening to find his grandmother; Roselida Majuma had not prepared supper.

His quest to the reason why no food was ready was met with a tough verbal exchange before a fight ensued between the two.

 “There was commotion for a few minutes and when neighbours rushed to check what was happening, they found the old lady lying lifeless on the floor,” stated the statement.

Omondi, who is an orphan, was said to be staying with the grandmother  who has been taking care of him.

Muhoroni OCPD Muthiri Mwongera said witnesses raised an alarm before residents responded by roughing up the man.

They then called the police and handed over the ‘culprit’ to the police.

Mwongera however said the man did not sustain any major injury and is being held at Muhoroni Police Station waiting to be arraigned in court.

“We will definitely charge him with murder but let us investigate the motive and the circumstances of the action,” said Mwongera.
