NAIVASHA: Residents of a Naivasha estate were left in shock after a middle-aged woman committed suicide after her efforts to conceive failed.
The woman who was married to flower farm worker took her life in the sprawling Karagita estate by hanging herself.
According to neighbours, the woman had for years tried to get a child and her efforts had been fruitless.
A neighbour, Jane Waithera said the deceased had confided in her friends that she was stressed up due to failure to get a baby.
“She claimed that some women were laughing at her as she could not get a baby and that affected her mentally,” said the neighbour.
Waithera said that her husband had left the home in the morning but on returning before midday he found the door locked.
“The house was locked from the outside and on checking through the window the body was found hanging from the ceiling,” she said.
Naivasha OCPD Charles Kortok confirmed the incident noting that the body had been collected and taken to area mortuary.
The police boss noted that there were many versions of the death adding that the woman did not leave behind a suicide note.
“We have launched investigations into the suicide though there are several versions as to the cause of the suicide,” he said.
Meanwhile emotions ran high as two minors who drowned in Lake Oloidien in Naivasha last week were laid to rest in Moi Ndabi area.
Relatives and their school mates broke into tears as the bodies of the two brothers were lowered into one grave at the parents’ farm.
The two had been swimming in the lake when one of them was overpowered by strong currents and efforts by his brother to save him ended in the death of the two.
“It was a very emotional burial that affected the parents deeply as the two boys died while having fun in the lake,” said a local leader Joel Kimani.
