Another drug lord deported alongside Anthony Chinedu sneaks back to Kenya

NAIROBI; KENYA: Another Nigerian national who was among drug lords deported in June together with Anthony Chinedu for involvement in narcotics trafficking has sneaked back and arrested in Nairobi's Donholm area.

Enobemhe Emmanuel Peter was arrested alongside a Kenyan woman and a powder believed to be drugs found on them. 

The woman identified as Virginia Wakini had just arrived from Tanzania via Namanga border when police raided their house. 

Police say they were trailing the woman on Friday night when they stumbled on Peter as he took refuge in a room.

 When questioned, Peter confessed to police he came back to Kenya late last month through the Namanga border using a different passport. 

"He says he came back three weeks ago using different papers but he is among those who had been deported to their countries for drug trafficking," said head of special crimes prevention unit Noah Katumo. 

The Nigerian is among drug lords who were deported on June 3 following a presidential order that the dealers be rounded up and sent back to their countries.

He is the second drug dealer to be arrested after sneaking back to Kenya after being deported. Police have since learnt there are four other drug dealers who were deported but have since sneaked back to Kenya using fake papers and are engaged in the crime.

"We have reports there are at least four of those we deported who have come back and are hiding while selling the drugs to our children," said a senior police officer.

Late July, Ethiopian Solomon Walde Haulu, 76 sneaked back to the country at undisclosed date and hid in Eastleigh where he was arrested.

Haulu had been deported on June 11 for being in Kenya illegally and over accusations of being a drug trafficker.

He and Peter were linked to local and international drug trafficking network.

Haulu sneaked back to Kenya from Uganda through the Malaba border and he did not have documents at the time of his arrest. 

Haulu was charged in court and is in jail. Peter is expected in court on Monday. 

Peter was among close to 30 other foreigners who were deported in June for alleged involvement in international crimes including drug trafficking. 

Seven out of the 30 foreigners are believed to be key members of drug cartels operating in Kenya and have in the past been arrested on narcotic.

And police are yet to trace the whereabouts of another Nigerian national who sneaked back to Kenya days after he was too deported.

An officer based at the Namanga border post, Edward Kabiu Njau, was charged in court for unlawfully assisting Eneke Chimenze to enter the country illegally on July 9. Chimeze had been deported together with the controversial Nigerian drug dealer Anthony Chinedu.

 

He has been on the run since then.

"We still fear he may harm the officers who participated in his deportation or other people in general. Efforts to get him are on-going," said Nairobi Area head of CID Nicholas Kamwende.

Russian Kurtasov Andrey, 42 was also deported several days after then acting Interior Cabinet Secretary Githu Muigai ordered for his deportation.

Drug lords deported include: Anthony Chinedu, Johnson Obina, Eneke Chimenze, Emmanuel Peter, Paul Maison, Christopher Nanyelu, John Peter Osinomuno, Ismail Adengule, Michael Olabaji, Paul Owasene, Adu Kolawale, Kenneth Chikenzi, Johnson Obina, Adebiyi Oluwatosini, Peter Sessie and Obira Onzama.

Also deported were Diawara Mamady and Komani Camara (Guinea Bissau); Solomon Haulu (Ethiopia), Abubakar Toure (Ivory Coast), Mohammed Dokure (Burundi), Asif Mohammed and Mohammed Khan (Pakistan), and Mohammed Kamara (Sierra Leone).
