Kenya National Union of Teachers (Knut) hasannounced that a nationwide teachers' strike will begin next Monday.
Knut officials led by Secretary General Mr David Osiany said no learning will take place in schools and warned teachers not to demonstrate on the streets as they press for salary increment.
The strike coincides with the reopening of schools for third and final term of the year, which will be shorter because of the new regulations only the candidates should be in school when national exams are administered.
Knut had issued a statutory 14-day notice for the strike to Teachers Service Commission and Ministry of Labour.
Central Organisation of Trade Unions and Kenya National Association of Parents have declared support for the strike.
