Four elderly security guards were hacked to death in Homa bay town, three of them while asleep in a ghastly murder.

A gang of more than ten clubbed the four to death, as police said some of the gangsters would have been workers of Shivling Supermarket.

The grisly killing left residents in shock, as the deceased had cuts on the heads and necks.

Police said the gang made away with over Sh1.4 million, unknown number of phones and DVDs.

Homa bay OCPD Francis Kumut told The Standard that the victims were hit with blunt objects.

Samuel Ogalo Ouka, 52, Dickson Andata 50, Samuel Ayuko, 49, met their death at the entry of supermarket. Oduor Ogenya, 54, was guarding a nearby butchery, and his attempts to raise an alarm led to his murder.

“Three of the dead were killed outside the supermarket. The fourth was killed after he tried to raise an alarm,” Kumut told The Standard on phone.

He said Ogenya was chased by the gang, as he tried to flee, and killed in the incident that occurred on Monday at around 3am.

Residents jammed the scene, but the OCPD said there were no cases of unruliness.

However, The Standard established that there was a lot of tension in the town and security officers conducted patrol in the area.

On Monday, Kumut said scene-of-crime detectives from Kisii had dusted the place for fingerprints.

“We have also taken finger prints at the broken windows, where the gang gained entry,” he added.

Kumut said everything at the supermarket was intact apart from the save, and this is the basis for suspecting it to be an inside job.

He said they would use the fingerprints to detect the workers who might have been involved.

He said the deceased were working for Luore Security firm, and their supervisor told officers that he had checked on them at around 1.45am.

“He (Morris Otieno) said that they were alive at that time, but when he went to the supermarket at 4.45am, he found their bodies lumped together, and immediately informed police on patrol,” said the police boss.

The deceased bodies were taken to the Homa bay District Hospital mortuary.
