ASK shows set to be held in counties starting next year

Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) fairs will change to county exhibitions in the next Government.
The society also plans to make the shows offer value by working closely with various sectors of the economy for realisation of Vision 2030.

ASK deputy national chairman Joseph Gachagua said in implementation of its strategic plan, ASK will work with farmers and agricultural agencies to help achieve best farming practices and food security.
Gachagua said they will also work with other stakeholders to ensure show grounds remain active throughout the year as opposed to the past when they were useful for a period.

“Show grounds can be active year round by offering activities like training grounds, demonstration plots, conference facilities or camping sites to remain self-sufficient,” said Gachagua. Noting that anyone can join ASK, Gachagua said they will join forces with various partners with an aim increasing their income.

Speaking during the society’s committee meeting at ASK show ground in Njukiri in Embu County, Gachagua said the 15 show grounds in the country are self-sustaining. He said they use the revenue collected during shows to pay staff adding that even national office rely on branches for their day-to-day operations.

He pointed out that they follow laid down procedures and use experts such as accountants and marketers to ensure they remain accountable and competitive.

“ASK has also been engaged in corporate social responsibility where last year they provided seeds to dry areas. We also hold harvest festivals where the proceeds go to help the needy,” said Gachagua.
He said this year’s shows will be different as they have included many components and will thus be more fun and knowledge based.
Eastern Deputy Provincial Commissioner William Ole Sanya said leadership issues that were at ASK have been resolved.
