Nakuru RFC and Strathmore Leos win

Nakuru RFC started the defence of the Menengai Oil Great Rift Ten-A-side winning her first two matches with Strathmore Leos repeating the same feat as the race to retain the title intensified at Nakuru Athletic club.

Nakuru defeated Multi-Media University 14-0 in their first match and went ahead to hammer Molo 46-0 in Pool A as Strathmore smashed KCA University 50-0 and clobbered Eldoret RFC 31-0 in Pool B.

Patrick Maina and Calvin Otieno scored Nakuru’s tries against Multi-Media University, who replaced Nondies with Javan Murayi making the two conversions.

Nakuru and Strathmore were headed for the second round of the Main Cup after leading their pools with six points from their two matches each.

Rwanda’s Leon De Fer failed to make the trip and were replaced by Molo RFC.

Harlequin started on a bad note after they arrived late which earned KU’s Blak Blad a 14-0 victory on a silver platter in the Pool C.

But Quins made a comeback in their second match when they demolished Egerton University 14-12 to ensure they get to the second round.

Both teams tied 5-5 at half time. Quins first touched down via William Wawire before Chris Nyadawa replied for the students.

Wawire was on the mark again in the second with a classic try and Lae Lasikwa converted before Calvin Kiprono reduced the margin with a try and conversion.

In the Pool D, Impala whipped United International University 28-5 in their first match. In another pool D match, Western Bulls defeated Homeboyz 20-14.

Meanwhile, Menengai and Kakamega High romped into the finals Secondary Schools category on Friday.

The final match between the two teams was expected on Saturday evening after both leading in their pools.

Menengai dismissed Eutycus 12-7, a group of school boys assembled from Nairobi in a thrilling encounter, which at some point was affected by torrential rainfall.

Kakamega dispatched Nakuru ‘s Langa Langa Secondary 24-0 in a one sided semi final match.
