The wife of the Anglican Church Archbishop Eliud Wabukala is dead.
Caren Nakhumicha Wabukala collapsed and died at her house on Monday night after attending a consecration and enthronement service for the second bishop of the Diocese of Nairobi.
A statement delivered by the ACK Dean Stephen Njehia said Caren was jovial and welcomed the wife of the new Bishop of Nairobi Canon Joel Waweru in a service at St Stephens ACK Church, Jogoo Road.
"At about 8pm Mama Caren collapsed in the house and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital where, after examination, she was pronounced dead," said Njehia.
As this was happening Wabukala was checking in at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on his way to London to attend a Global South meeting scheduled to begin on Monday.
"We only managed to communicate to him before he boarded, and was able to view her body at the hospital," said Njehia.
When The Standard visited the prelate’s residence, friends and relatives, including Government officials thronged the home to express their condolences, among them Justice Minister Mutula Kilonzo and Kanduyi MP Alfred Khangati.
Separately, Prime Minster Raila Odinga and Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka sent their condolence.

Raila said: "I convey condolences to the archbishop, his family, friends and the Anglican Church where Caren served with dedication. I wish the archbishop the strength and courage to cope with the loss and assure him of support where needed."
Kalonzo said: "She will be remembered as a strong pillar in the Anglican Church, who stood firmly in her faith and contributed immensely to the spread of the work of God."
