Signs that the State is broke

Recent events and utterances by senior Government officials lead me to believe the Government is broke.

On Monday, Education PS Karega Mutahi was at pains to explain why money for free secondary education had not been disbursed.

If the PS cannot predict when money will be released, he is telling Kenyans the Government is having cash flow problems.

Last week, the Minister for Planning and Public Service Dalmas Otieno said the retirement age for civil servants had been pushed to 60 years.

I suspect the State can’t afford to pay retirees’ pension so, for the next five years, it will have given itself breathing space to look for money.
