A clerk has been charged with stealing more than Sh2.5 million from a bank.

Ms Milly Eve Akoth of the Ministry of Finance was alleged to have stolen Sh2,552,662 from Southern Credit Bank.

She faced another count of conspiring with others to defraud the bank of the same amount of money.

The alleged offences were allegedly committed between October 15 and November 7, last year in Westlands and at the Standard Chartered Bank on Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi.

Police summoned Akoth from her office at Treasury Building on Monday and locked her up at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre Police Station.

Counterfeits

Meanwhile, six people were arraigned before a Nakuru court charged with two counts of counterfeiting more than 600 gas cylinders.

Mr David Mwaura, Mr Samuel Kiruiru, Mr Julius Kyalo, Mr Amos Muteheri, Mr Martin Ambiga and Mr Timothy Njoroge denied the charges before Chief Magistrate Wilbroda Juma.

They are charged that on November 23 at Stem in Nakuru they had in their possession assorted gas cylinders suspected to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.

They are also accused of jointly counterfeiting trademarks of gas cylinders intended for sale purporting that they were manufactured by K-gas, Caltex, Mobil and Afri-gas companies.

Juma released them on a bond of Sh15,000 yesterday, with a similar surety or a cash bail of similar amount.

The case will be heard on January 26 next year.
