Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati has lost his mother.
While making the announcement, Bungoma Deputy Governor Prof Charles Ngome said that Mama Selina Nasike Wangamati, 82, died in her sleep at her Kanduyi home.
“The Office of the Governor regrets to announce the passing on of mother to Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati. Mama Selina passed on peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday night (February 16, 2021) at her Kanduyi home,” read part of the presser from the Deputy Governor.
According to Prof Ngome, Governor Wangamati and his family have started arrangements for her funeral, which he said would be communicated in due course.

The deceased was the second wife to the governor's father, Patrick Wangamati, who at one time served as the Webuye Town Council Mayor and former Ford Kenya nominated MP. Wangamati is also the former Chairman of the Luhya Council of Elders.
Political leaders from the region led by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya condoled the governor over the loss of his mother.
“Condolences to my brother Governor Wycliffe Wangamati and his family following the death of their matriarch Mama Selina Nasike Wangamati. May God give the entire family circle of Mzee Patrick Wangamati strength and fortitude during this difficult time of grief,” posted Lusaka on his Twitter account.
Governor Oparanya posted: “I am saddened by the death of Mama Selina Nasike Wangamati, mother to my brother Wycliffe Wangamati, the Governor of Bungoma County. I pray to God to grant immeasurable comfort, strength and fortitude to her family and friends to bear the loss."
Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang’ula also sent his condolences saying: “My condolences to my Governor Wycliffe Wangamati following the loss of his mother. May the Lord give the family strength at this difficult moment. RIP mum."
