Matungu Member of Parliament Justus Murunga (pictured) is dead.
Standard Digital can authoritatively confirm the news of his demise on Saturday evening. The MP died at the St Mary’s Mission Hospital in Mumias.
He is reported to have been ailing for the last two weeks and had been battling diabetes.
He had just been released from The Agha Khan hospital in Kisumu before coming back home and was rushed to the mission hospital on Saturday evening, where he died minutes after treatment.
At the time of publishing, his body has been moved to St Mary's Mission Hospital mortuary.
Leaders from the political divide have begun sending in their messages of condolence to friends and family of the lawmaker.
Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya eulogized the late as a hardworking and selfless leader.
He tweeted: “I'm deeply saddened by his death which has robbed Kakamega a focused leader whose contribution in the development of our County will be missed. May his soul rest in peace.”
