Police yesterday said they will not allow two fundraising events that were to be presided over by Deputy President William Ruto today, despite being informed of the functions three days prior as required by the security guidelines released earlier in the week.

This move is likely to cause a confrontation with area MPs and other leaders allied to the DP who have vowed that the function will go on as they had met all the security requirements.

On Friday evening, in a letter addressed to both churches where the events were to take place, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) from both Shianda in Mumias East and Koyonzo in Matungu said the meetings would not be allowed as scheduled, citing multiple security and health concerns.

The DP was to conduct a fundraising today at St Leo Catholic Church Shianda in Mumias East and grace a church service at Our Lady of Assumption Indangalasia Catholic parish in Matungu. The police also directed that no church services will be held in the two churches.
