Ruto distributes gifts to Muslims, steers clear of politics

Deputy President William Ruto on Saturday distributed gifts to Muslim leaders who will in turn give the same to the less privileged.

In his message, the DP saluted Muslims for their prayers as the country fights COVID-19 and wished them well as they mark Eid al-fitr next week.

“On this last day in this year’s Holy Month of Ramadan, we salute the remarkable spiritual sacrifice our Muslim brothers and sisters have made by praying for Kenya as we battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

“May Allah open the doors of blessings and joy to you and the country as the marking of Eid al-Fitr approaches,” said DP Ruto.

In recent weeks, there has been talk of a clear fallout between the DP and President Uhuru Kenyatta but none of them has come forth to say what the issue is.

Things started going south when Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen was removed as the Senate majority leader, a move that was believed to be directed at Ruto.

The DP has maintained a low-profile as his foot soldiers engage in heated debates with what they have termed as the ‘system’.

Leaders allied to Ruto have blamed the President for betrayal saying he should have stuck to the promises he made to the DP regarding the 2022 Presidential race.

The President’s newfound ‘bromance’ with ODM party leader Raila Odinga has left a section of leaders in Jubilee with a bitter taste as they believe it is meant to push out Ruto.

Earlier this week, Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi said it is high time President Kenyatta told Kenyans what is happening between him and his Deputy.

Speaking on JKL, Ahmednasir added that the DP is under siege and the President’s actions have put him in a very difficult situation.

He argued that it would be better for the Head of State to openly state that he has differences with his deputy and perhaps Kenyans will understand why there has been friction between them recently.

“I think it’s high time the President told Kenyans what is going on between him and his Deputy.

“...of course he (Ruto) is under siege… The President does not speak but a lot of his actions puts the Deputy President in a very difficult situation,” he said.
