Being a mum is beautiful and amazing; it’s also a blessing.
It is the best thing that can ever happen to any woman. But being a first-time
mum is not easy; it comes with a lot of expectations, and it has lots of
challenges.
I am a mother and a first-time mother to be precise. When I
got pregnant, I was so happy, but I was clueless about most of the things that
came handy with being a parent.
Here are some of the things you should know;
- Go
for Antenatal clinic(ANC)- it’s always advisable to go for ANC. Attend all
the visits as advised by your doctor. It helps to monitor the baby's
growth and development and also to ensure the mothers well being
- Take
your Folic Acid Tablets daily- the folic acid tablets Folate plays an
important role in the production of red blood cells and helps your baby's
neural tube develop into her brain and spinal cord.
- Eat
lots of fruits since fruits are known for boosting immunity and also drink
lots of water to remain hydrated.
- Make
a list of all the things your baby will need after he is born and buy
them; don't wait for the last minute. Making a list will enable you to
plan and enable you to budget on how much money you will actually spend on
buying baby stuff.
- Have
a medical cover with you. This medical cover will enable you to pay for
your hospital bill when you are discharged from the hospital. If you are
unable to access a medical cover, there is a free medical cover for women
in public hospitals called Linda mama.
- Choose
your preferred hospital facility where you would like to deliver your
baby. Visit the facility and inquire about all the maternity services they
offer inquire if they have a neonatal unit for babies if they have theatre
and others.
- Look
for a transport system just in case you cannot walk yourself to the
hospital.
- Look
for a helper, someone to help you around the house after the baby is born.
This will enable you to rest more.
- Save-
having some cash will help you a lot after you are discharged from the
hospital. If you are the only parent, the money will help you to settle
some of your bills for the months you will be at home.
