Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino was on Saturday, January 18, 2020, moved from the Kilimani Police Station to the Gigiri Police Station in an attempt to avoid possible chaos at the station.
According to a DCI detective who sought anonymity, tens of youths suspected to be the legislator’s supporters were spotted near the police station and there was fear that chaos would erupt around the vicinity.
“Intelligence reports reveal that the suspect’s supporters were planning to engage in unlawful activities at Kilimani Police Station, and therefore, we had to take precaution,” said the detective.
According to the DCI, Owino was arrested on Friday, January 17, 2020, in connection to a shooting at a club in Nairobi’s Kilimani area.

“Detectives based at Kilimani have today arrested Hon Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino, Member of Parliament for Embakasi East following a shooting incident at B Club located along Galana Road within Kilimani,” said the DCI.
In his defense, the legislator said the incident was a culmination of a series of death threats that he has been receiving since 2019.
“At the turn of the year, I reported an attempted assassination at the Parliament Police Station under OB number OB21/17/11/2019 at 17:28hrs. I have been living under the weight of intimidation and threats by my political opponents.
“Yesterday was the culmination of these efforts by my enemies. While enjoying the company of my friends at a popular Nairobi restaurant, I was surrounded by a large group of aggressive individuals.
The MP is set to appear in court on Monday, January 20, 2020.
