On Sunday during a church service at St Francis Catholic Church in Naivasha, Deputy President William Ruto alluded that he was part of the team that negotiated for the Raila Odinga's AU job.
While speaking to the congregation, Ruto said: “Part of the assignment for our friends when we negotiated for his AU position did not include prospecting for minerals or merchandise of any nature.”
The statement came at a time when Raila said he blew the whistle on the fake gold scam that had seen foreign investors lose billions of shillings to local and foreign cartels.
His remarks have sparked an uproar as supporters of the Former Prime Minister dismiss the allegations saying they are outright lies.
While speaking to a local media house, Raila’s spokesman said: “What we know and I believe all Kenyans know is that Ruto can never be a party to anything that uplifts Raila Odinga. If he was a party to those talks, he must have joined to stop it but failed.”

Suna East Member of Parliament and ODM Party Director of Elections, Junet Mohamed reacted to the remarks saying: “Arap Mashamba now claims he negotiated for PM the AU job. A few weeks ago, however, he claimed Tinga approached him four times and he refused. You need a good memory to lie consistently.”
Reacting to the similar matter, Raila Junior bashed Ruto for his perennial lies.
"The man who told us he was approached four times and refused has changed tune, now claiming he accepted the advances and even negotiated AU envoy mission. Is he running out of campaign ideas or just untreatable Raila obsession?" Raila Junior wrote on his Twitter wall.
The Deputy President and his supporters have on record questioned Raila’s involvement in the gold scandal demanding that he records a statement with the DCI.
This is after an audio recording of Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula speaking to a person perceived to the conned foreign investor emerged. During the conversation between the two the names of President Uhuru, Raila and CS Matiang’I were mentioned by the Senator.
