Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) chairman George Magoha has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to look into the case of Starehe Boys’ Centre.

Magoha said this during the release of KCPE exam results at The Star of the Sea Primary School in Mombasa on Monday.

Recently, concern was raised after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) threatened to withdraw services of teachers from the institution.

The KNEC Chairman explained that Starehe is a special school meant for the underprivileged.

‘I want to ask President Uhuru Kenyatta to look at the case of Starehe Boys Center which is a special school for the poor, run for the poor like myself who shouldn’t be where I am,’ said Magoha.

He further stated that his success in academia was as a result of the values that were inculcated in him while at the prestigious school.

‘Everything I’ve done in this country is as a result of the training I got at Starehe boys center, so please leave Starehe alone.’ he said.

Magoha urged the relevant authorities to take legal action against any mismanagement at the school and said nobody should destroy what has worked for the school in the past 50 years.

Traditionally, the institution was established as a charitable institution that provides care and education for boys in need.

The school provided education to bright needy students and a home where they could live.

The management wrangles have had a ripple effect on the institution with financial crisis lighting up the future of sustaining funding for the poor students.

Also, gone are the days when the school would top in national examinations.

Ever since the demise of founder William Griffin, the school has been on a steady decline and results are far from pleasing, considering its stature as an academic giant.
