A survivor of the grisly road accident that killed 50 people in Kericho has revealed details of what happened prior to the crash.
According to the passenger, they had just left Nairobi but on reaching Westlands, the driver took an abrupt turn to go and pick more people in town.
There had been a heated confrontation between the conductor and passengers on why they were overloading.
The extra passengers were seated on the bus floor since all seats were occupied.
The survivor says despite the pain and injuries, he is thankful to be alive.
The number of people known to have died from the Wednesday morning bus accident in Kericho has risen to 50, according to police.
According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened at 4 am. It occurred at the Tunnel area, a black spot on the Londiani-Muhoroni road.
Kericho police boss James Mugera confirmed there are 31 male casualties, 12 women and seven children.
Mugera said the passenger bus belongs to Western Cross Express Co. Limited, but its operational name is Home Boyz.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, DP William Ruto and opposition chief Raila Odinga have led the nation in mourning the loss of lives after the grisly road accident that occurred at Fort Ternan area on the Kisumu – Muhoroni highway.
The leaders condoled with families and friends who lost their loved ones during the Wednesday morning accident whose death toll currently stands at 50.
They also called for action to prevent any future such accidents, further urging drivers to exercise caution.
