Deputy President William Ruto accused
National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga of organizing militia to
block the delivery of voting materials during his interview with the CNN. DP
Ruto then went ahead and dismissed Raila's claims and said that President Uhuru’s
win was legitimate.
‘’You must win 50%... we have already
surpassed that threshold… That means that in terms of the constitution, the
legitimacy question is already answered… It is incorrect for Mr. Odinga to say
that 3.5 million voters turned out. In fact 7.5 million voters turned out… Of
course he wants to peddle a narrative that suits his political narrative. There
is a percentage of voters that was denied a chance to vote. I challenge our
opponent to remove the organized militia blocking the delivery of voting
material and we will know for sure if those affected want to vote or not,” said
DP Ruto during the interview.
Raila Odinga, during his interview with CNN, said that the voter turnout during the October election proved that people do not have confidence in President Uhuru’s government.
“According to the KIEMS Kit which were biometrically used to identify the registered voters, only 3.5 million people participated in the voting yesterday (October 26); that is just about 20 per cent of the total registered voters. That shows basically that the people don’t have confidence, it is a vote of no confidence in the government of President Kenyatta. And if I were him, he would actually resign or step aside because the people have shown that they do not have confidence,” said Raila Odinga.
