Cheating in examinations is common in most universities in Kenya.
However, at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, cheating is just but a rumour. No one cheats — thanks to the university’s Science Laboratory Complex.
Students taking sciences seat their examinations in the laboratory complex whose design allows lecturer to monitor students from near the roof. Whether it was a fortunate consequence of design or an intentional move, the students are lined up on the ground floor of the building during testing, while their supervisors watch hawk-eyed from above them. “It is very easy for the lecturers to supervise us,“ says Geoffrey Muombo, an Environmental Science student, adding that “It has reduced cases of cheating among the students. If I wanted to cheat, I would have to be very daring.”
